Awards

The strength of Vimy Ridge Academy is demonstrated by our students both at the school and in our community. Congratulations to the following students for their individual achievements:

Squash - Kensy Balch (2010), an honours student who graduated in 2010 from Vimy Ridge's Elite Athlete program, is currently attending Dartmouth College (an Ivy League school) in Hanover, New Hampshire on a Squash scholarship.
Figure Skating
Natasha Purich was awarded the Pre-Novice Canadian Gold Medal Championship and Kaetlyn Osmond is the Novice Ladies Canadian Gold Medal Champion, 2009.
Hockey:
Giorgio Estephan (2012) played for SSAC Lions and was the top scorer in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League with 100 pts in 32GP. Drafted 4th overall to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. (Geiorgio is the highest drafted player in Vimy history.)
Mark Matsuba (2012) defenceman for the St. Albert Sabres, had 11 goals in 33 games, drafted 81st overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Zach Smith(2012) Maple Leaf Athletic Club defenceman, member of Team Edmonton South at the Alberta Cup, drafted 124th by the Kootenay Ice.
Josh Hayward (2012) forward for the SSAC Lions, finished 12th in the Alberta Bantam AAA Scoring Race. Drafted 138th overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
Aaron Irving (2011)
played for SSAC Lions and was named Top Defenceman at the Western Canadian Bantam Championships, was selected in the 1st round, 9th overall by the Edmonton Oilkings.
Bryar Ortysnki (2011)played for SSAC Lions, who won Bantam AAA provincials, was selected in the 2nd round, 44th overall by the Saskatoon Blades.
John Quenneville (2011) also played for the SSAC Lions, finished 4th in league scoring in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, drafted in the 3rd round, 54th overall by the Brandon Wheatkings
Brandon Hickey (2011) Defenceman for the Leduc Oilkings, went in the 4th round 81st overall to the Tri-City Americans.
Riley Simpson (2011) Center for the SSAC Lions, was drafted by his hometown Edmonton Oilkings 123rd overall in the 6th round.
Ben Sowa (2011) Defence for SSAC Lions, Ben was drafted in the 6th round as well, by the Prince George Cougars 132nd overall.
Jake Debrusk (2011) added to a huge draft for the SSAC Lions, hearing his name called by the Swift Current Broncos in the 7th round 137th overall .
Hockey Program students Greg Chase, Jaedon Descheneau, Nakeh Lamothe, Linden Bourne and Linden Penner were drafted in the WHL Bantam Draft 2010.
Greg Chase (2010), who played for the Bantam AAA Sherwood Park Flyers and was named Team Captain for the Northeast Flyers in this year’s Alberta Cup, was selected in the first round, 22nd overall by the Calgary Hitmen.
Jaedon Descheneau (2010) of Leduc Bantam AAA, who was also named to the Northeast Flyers in this year’s Alberta Cup, was drafted by Kootenay in the 3rd round, 62nd overall.
Nakeh Lamothe (2010) who played for the SSAC Lions and was named to the Edmonton South Bruins, was drafted 83rd overall in the 4th round by the Spokane Chiefs.
Linden Bourne (2010), another Sherwood Park Flyer who played on the Northeast Flyers, was drafted in the 8th round, 167th overall by the Chilliwack Bruins.
Linden Penner (2010), yet another Sherwood Park Flyer, was drafted in the 10th round, 218th overall by the Saskatoon Blades.
Peter Quenneville (2010) - Prince George, 4th round 69th overall.
Brandon Magee (2010) – Chilliwack, 4th round 84th overall.
Arthur Gordon (2010) - Swift Current, 6th round 127th overall.
Peter Quenneville (2009) - was drafted 69 th overall by the Prince George Cougars. He played this past season with the MLAC Bantam AAA totaling 24 goals and 23 assists for 47 points. · Peter has been in The Hockey Program since grade 4.
Brandon Magee (2009) - was drafted 84 th overall by the Chilliwack Bruins. He played this past season with the SSAC Bantam AAA totaling 37 goals and 37 assists for 74 points – 3 rd in league scoring. Brandon Magee has been in The Hockey Program since grade 4.
Arthur Gordon (2009) - was drafted 127 th overall by the Swift Current Broncos. He played this past season with the SSAC Bantam AAA totaling 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points. Arthur Gordon has been with The Hockey Program since grade 7 . Joel Campbell, Cole Grekul and Michael Martin played for the Knights of Columbus Bantam AAA Squires in the 10 th Sapporo Cup International Ice Hockey Meet in Sapporo , Japan , winning the gold medal 2008.
Dylan Bredo (2008)– Dylan was drafted by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2 nd round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Dylan currently plays for the SSAC Midget AAA team here in Edmonton .
Josh Derko (2008) – Josh was drafted by the Swift Current Broncos in the 5 th round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Josh currently plays for the Sherwood Park Minor Midget AAA Hockey Team.
Mark McNeill (2008) – Mark was drafted 5 th overall by Prince Albert in last year's WHL Bantam Draft. Mark is currently in Gr. 10 and is the leading scorer for the SSAC Midget AAA team here in Edmonton . Mark has already played in games this year for the Raiders.
Jaynen Rissling (2008) – Jaynen was drafted by the Calgary Hitmen in the 6 th round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Jaynen currently plays for the CAC Midget AAA Hockey Team.
Reece Scarlett (2008) – Reece was drafted 12 th overall by Swift Current in last season's Bantam Draft. Reece currently plays for the Sherwood Park Midget AAA team and was a huge part of his team's first place finish this year in the AMHL standings. Reece has already played in games for the Broncos.
Dillon Simpson (2008) – Dillon was drafted by the Kelowna Rockets in the 8th round of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft. Dillon currently plays for the SSAC Midget AAA Hockey Club and has played in games this year with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL.
Colin Smith (2008) – Colin was drafted 7 th overall by Kamloops in last year's WHL Bantam Draft. Colin is currently in Gr. 10 and is the leading scorer for the CAC Midget AAA team here in Edmonton . Colin also finished 3 rd this year in AMHL league scoring. Colin has already played games this year for the Blazers.
Klarc Wilson (2008) – Klarc was drafted 10 th overall by Brandon last year. Klarc, in Gr. 10, is currently the leading scorer for the KC Midget AAA team here in Edmonton . Klarc has also played games for the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Austin Yadlowski (2008) – Austin was drafted by the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the 10 th round of last year's bantam draft. Austin currently sits second amongst Minor Midget AAA defensemen in scoring and is an integral part of the SSAC minor midget AAA hockey club.
Lacrosse Dallas Smith, Carson Snaychuk, Lukas Frost, Elton Francis, Kevin Pym and Sean Quilley all played for the Edmonton Razorbacks, helping their team to win the Provincial Championship in Lacrosse 2008.
Tennis - Vuk Radovic played 2008 National Tennis Indoor Championship and qualified for it being ranked #2 in the province of Alberta for boys under 14, while the previous year he was ranked #1 for boy's under 12 in the province.
Dance - Corryne Barron finished in top 12 in "So You Think You Can Dance, Canada", 2009.
