Vimy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
The BJJ Program at Vimy Ridge is North America’s only sports-alternative program combining both junior high and high school academics and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. Working out of Vimy Ridge Academy in association with Edmonton Public Schools, the program is designed for boys and girls in Grades 7 through 12 and provides student-athletes with the opportunity to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu techniques in a safe and controlled environment.
Vimy Ridge student-athletes participate in BJJ training at our dojo located across the road in The Bonnie Doon Mall on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:45-10:30am. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings BJJ Program student-athletes remain at Vimy and participate in Physical Education programming.
Our program helps young adults improve their “self”. Self-defense, self-esteem, self-confidence and self-discipline. Student-athletes will also demonstrate an improvement in strength, flexibility, and body awareness along with developing skills within sport jiu-jitsu, wrestling and judo.
The program has been designed to help student-athletes develop character traits such as respect, courage, compassion, perseverance, grit and maximum effort. On average, student-athletes receive 6 hours of jiu-jitsu instruction per week! Cross-training is incorporated on a weekly basis as well giving Vimy BJJ student-athletes an opportunity to develop cross over skills and strength in yoga, gymnastics and crossfit.
