Vimy students must thrive academically while actively pursuing excellence in athletics, dance, outdoor pursuits, and other high-performance fields within a flexible and student-centred structure. This requires adaptability, self-discipline, teamwork, and the ability to balance multiple commitments, exactly the capabilities needed to meet the political, social, technological, and environmental challenges of the future. 

The Vimy Ridge Academy Journey is built on three pillars of student success: Academic Excellence, High-Performance Athletic Programming, and Character & Community Engagement. These pillars ensure students graduate ready for post-secondary studies, careers, and meaningful engagement as citizens and leaders.

To achieve this, we intentionally guide students through a progressive experience that:

• Aligns rigorous academics with personalized supports - including Advanced Placement and Academic Enrichment Programming, flexible timetables for elite athletes, and individualized pathways, so that every grad is academically prepared for the next step.

• Embeds performance-based programs in sport-specific academies, as well as Dance, Outdoor Pursuits, Esports, and other academy streams, supported by professional coaches and partnerships that elevate skill and character development alongside classroom success. 

• Promotes  RAIDER CORE VALUES through practice and experience:

  • Engagement in every learning opportunity.

Each grade level is anchored by meaningful, contextual goals that connect curriculum mastery with leadership, resilience, curiosity, and social responsibility. These grade-specific outcomes represent Vimy’s “moments that matter” in academic achievement, performance development, and personal character growth. Each Academy engages in a Compassion Project each year that gives back to our communities

In this way, the Vimy Ridge Academy Journey doesn’t just prepare students to graduate, it prepares them to lead, adapt, contribute, and succeed beyond the school gates, guided by the very qualities that shaped our nation’s identity. Students at Vimy Ridge Academy are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence. Their stories merge with both the legends of the past and with those of the future.  They create their own stories by engaging in the unique opportunity to hone skills in academics, athletics, performing arts, citizenship and leadership. They come from all backgrounds, from all over our region, and join the forces of over 1400 student athletes who are on a personal journey to a successful future. They may commit to one of the exceptional alternative athletic programs, or they may be training as an elite athlete who requires a flexible school program that allows them to be successful as an athletic scholar. Students in Grades 7 - 12 choose programs in specific sport interests, dance, and outdoor pursuits, or they create a flexible schedule in the Elite Athlete program to accommodate training in swimming, diving, gymnastics, figure skating, wrestling, martial arts, or alpine skiing, just to name a few. 

Vimy Ridge Academy offers an authentic community school atmosphere, with exceptional teachers to ensure each student receives personalized attention and support needed to excel academically. Pathways beyond High School are forged through our working relationships with agencies that support and develop youth with goals in their future. Our teaching staff is one that goes above and beyond to ensure teaching and learning is focused, paced, and rigorous. Many of our staff have histories of remarkable athleticism and truly understand the needs of a focused student-athlete. Professional and certified coaches provide high-level competitive training in fully equipped facilities through essential relationships with the Academic and Athletic Development Society of Edmonton (baseball, softball, hockey, lacrosse, sport fit, and outdoor pursuits) as well as the University of Alberta Green and Gold Soccer Academy. The Edmonton School of Ballet is another fundamental agency supporting the Dance program at Vimy Ridge Academy and is one of the most respected professional dance programs in Canada. Every student completes a full academic program balanced with daily physical training in their specific program of choice. Every student graduating from Vimy Ridge Academy is academically prepared for success in post-secondary coursework. 

Vimy Ridge Academy offers simply the best facilities in the capital region. Students have access to fully renovated classrooms and learning spaces, eight dance studios, two gymnasiums, a fitness centre, a competition-sized climbing wall, access to technology in every space, a learning commons space, a cafeteria, and access to local recreational facilities.  In-house access to medical referrals and physiotherapy consults is available to students during the school day.  Vimy Ridge Academy offers students advantages that are both immediate and lifelong.  Become a Raider.
